How to build websites with iWeb Competitive
Leta € ™ s face it – iWeb is something most serious web designers wouldn € ™ t dream of using, but that doesn € ™ t mean thereâ € ™ s not valid reasons for people to use Apple's € ™ s good program for building their websites. Maybe they have very limited knowledge of HTML, sometimes maybe they just want to build something that looks good in a pinch. This iWeb is probably where it really shines – you can get something going soon.
If youâ ™ € you've played with iWeb youâ € ™ re probably aware of all its strengths – just spend more time producing content that you do in programming, or rather – iWeb lets you pass without programming time, all the while producing content for their users. Something like this comes at a pice very strong however, as iWeb has serious limitations and drawbacks that youâ ™ € you will have a find a way around, you want to run a successful website.
A while ago I bought a domain that you want to create a Website on Malapascua, a tropical island where m € ™ ma lucky enough to live. At first wasn ™ € t sure which way to go with him, as I have written two websites in HTML. This was about four years ago however, and as I installed the new versions Current Dreamweaver and Macromedia Flash and see how different it all looked, I weighed my options carefully. In the end I chose iWeb to obtain results immediately, instead of take weeks to reach zero in html.
Having chosen to go with iWeb, I soon discovered that what seemed at a glance actually had some errors serious. There are, as I said, several drawbacks for iWeb. I draw what I see as the big three. Â
First, unless to go for a little work, itâ € ™ s easy to see that a page is made in iWeb. This is because most people go strictly with templates provided without changing to suit your own style. Although most of the templates look great, thereâ € ™ s just that many of them, and – once they have seen, you recognize instantly.
Second, the pages created with iWeb tend to load very slowly, mainly due to graphics abysmally bad compression coding iWeb. Unless youâ € ™ re careful, people have clicked the back button before your page even loaded! Â
Third, the pages created in iWeb are fine if you just want to show your family what you did in your last holiday, (and you will send the link via email.) However, if you are planning on going there and compete with Google, iWeb lets you reeling. Thereâ € ™ s absence support to modify the titles, metatags, etc. Without this photo Discription alternates, can kiss any hope of a decent Google ranking goodbye.
IA € ™ ll tackle these three problems one at a time.
Most probably donâ ™ € t want people to recognize your website as one made in iWeb for several reasons. Research has shown that the design of specimens often leads people to think that the actual content is duplicated, so even if it isnâ € ™ t. Visitors also may harbor thinking along the lines, if you can not ™ € not even bother to make a page appropriate site, why should I spend time reading? a Dona € ™ t fall into the trap – There are several steps you can take to personalize your page. In First youâ € ™ ll want to make sure you remove the witness in a â € œmade maca € button at the bottom of each screen. Why someone might think is cool is beyond me! Why waste time visitors ™ € downloading a logo telling them what computer type on the page was made in?! Get rid of him. Now. Secondly, try playing with the background colors of the browser and the bottom of the page. It is possible that want to switch to solid colors instead of graphics files favored by Apple designs because they are unnecessarily large and easily recognizable. In Thirdly, I suggest to create a decent logo for your page in Photoshop or any graphics program you have available. This gives a sense of uniqueness. Write your own logo at the top of every page, and get rid of Apple's € ™ s suggestion. Finally, you may want to change the color of the navigation bar, either with another solid color or a graphic. For inspiration, you can see the logo, and the smooth transition in the navigation bar, which I created for my website on Malapascua.
Changing the navigation bar isnâ t € ™ iWeb allows you to actually do something. Youâ € ™ ll need to publish the website to a local folder, change the file, and the load by an FTP program. (I've found Cyberduck works well, but there are many to choose from) As expected, the file youâ € ™ ll want to change is inside the folder you chose to publish your site a. Youâ € ™ ll find a copy of the navigation bar graphs in each folder (which corresponds to the pages of your website) Mod_menu_bar.jpg The file is called. Open it in a graphics program, modify it, save it to another folder somewhere. – youâ € ™ ll want to change the file in each directory, copy and replace the original file with the edited file.
Finally, even changing aften Etc. colors donâ € ™ t be tempted to use the templates as they are. Move things up a bit, donâ € ™ t just drag and drop text and images into the placeholders. People can say. Well, now your page has its own look. This leads toa € |.
The second problem. sites iWeb load so slowly due to the enormous. PNG graphics files created by iWeb. Youâ € ™ ll need to change the settings on iWeb, so that imports graphics and exports in the same Format.A Interestingly youâ ll ™ € untoggle want the option to compress files when importing (found in the configuration). Leave iWeb try to compress JPG files actually result in even higher. A PNG files instead, youâ € ™ ll want to make sure that all graphics are given names and are saved as JPG or GIF (whichever is less) before being imported into iWeb.   Ok, so far so good – now Hereâ € ™ s something really stupid! When your small and optimized for web jpgs are imported, iWeb makes it even more when the exports of the page. Thereâ € ™ s can do nothing about it in iWeb – itâ € ™ s just sloppy coding. What you have to do is manually copy files into folders optimized correct, or creating an automated routine that does it for you. (You can easily do this using Automator, part of OSX) A – Fortunately, only is necessary to do this on folders / pages you have edited since the last time. Donâ € ™ t publish the entire website, publish only pages which have altered or reduced work created. Que. There are a couple of files that you must keep on hand in a separate folder, which can always be copied. These files are your particular logo, the navigation bar, footer, background and browser background. You can easily identify these files in each folder. The thing to do is create graphics optimized to replace imported folders obese files there and youâ € ™ ve probably already cut 100-200 KB of loading time unnecessary for each page! Do this with all the graphics on your site, and is reasonably fast.
The third problem with iWeb is, that doesn € ™ t let you add metatags, descriptions of alternate Etc. photo this youâ € ™ ll need a standalone application – IA € ™ I found that iWeb SEO Tool, Rage Software works excellently. Itâ € ™ s shareware and works like a charm – just Google it, ™ € download your heart and you're on your way to Web sites are performing much better.
